Want to write for us?
Popular Woodworking’smission is to inspire people to make beautiful furniture and objects that stand the test of time. To that end, we seek out people from all backgrounds (from professional woodworkers to engineers to artists doing interesting things with new materials) to find the projects and techniques that speak to us.
But that’s only part of the picture.
Our best contributors not only build great stuff, they also know how to take great photos, write concisely, meet deadlines and work collaboratively with the editorial staff to create a great magazine and helpful, informative content online.
Does that sound like you? Then get in touch with us!
The best way to do that is to send an email to Logan Wittmer firstname.lastname@example.org introduce yourself and your idea for an article. The best article pitches include a few images or sketches, a few details about what makes the piece of furniture or technique interesting, how long the project should take to build, estimated material costs, and a little bit of information about who you are (images of other things you’ve built, website or social media links, etc.).
What happens next?
Once we’ve received and reviewed your article pitch, we’ll get in touch to let you know if we’d like to move forward with it. We’ll set some expectations (most feature stores come in at about 2500 words, 20 photos with captions and an illustration or two), agree to a payment (most features pay between $1000 and $3000 depending on the scope and complexity), set a deadline for submission and then sign a contract. After that, we’ll check in and are happy to answer questions while you’re working on the story.
What about videos, blog posts, profiles, tool reviews and tips and tricks?
Popular Woodworkingis so much more than a magazine, and we’re always looking for engaging content to share with our audience on our website, Youtube and other platforms. While a lot of this content comes from our staff and our archives, we’re happy to work with all kinds of contributors with cool ideas to share. Send them our way!
